Yes, all students must apply to the Graduate program you are interested in pursuing. For on campus programs please apply here. For admission to an Online program, contact Kettering University Online (KUO).
What is the difference between On Campus and KUO, with regard to the AMO?
There is no difference between an on campus student and a KUO student with regard to now the AMO works. However, there are some differences in course delivery and registration. Once you have completed the Graduate School admission process, you can visit the Graduate website for Next Steps if you are an on campus student. If you are a KUO student, please visit the KUO website for next steps.
I need to register for an online class, how do I do that?
If you are a KUO student, contact KUO. If you are an on campus student wishing to take an online class, you will need to contact Dr. Janie Jacobs at jjacobs@mblayst.com.
I was told by a recent KU graduate student that he was able to use 3-500 level courses from his undergraduate degree as graduate credit, how does that work?
Kettering undergrads can count up to twelve (12) credits, of 400 or 500 level courses completed at the undergraduate level, and for which a grade of B or better was earned, are also applied to the master’s degree. (Mechanical Engineering capstone courses do not apply.) The courses to be double-counted will be determined by the Master's program department. Per University Policy, Kettering undergraduates are also allowed to take up to three graduate courses, for graduate credit, while still an undergraduate. To take advantage of this opportunity, complete the Request Form and return to the Registrar's Office for processing.
The section on the AMO form to select the courses to take for graduate credit are in the faculty section of the document. I took several 500 level courses in my undergrad, am I able to pick specific ones I want to apply to the graduate degree?
The courses to be double-counted are determined by the Master's program department. You are welcome to discuss your specific preferences with your Academic Advisor.
How quickly after I complete my undergraduate degree can I start my Master's program?
Once you are accepted to a graduate program and your undergraduate degree has been conferred, you will be able to register for graduate courses in the next available academic term. Students can apply for the AMO before graduating (after completing 120 credit hours) or after graduation. Students should recognize however that all graduate coursework, including dual counted courses, must be completed within a six year time period.
I just graduated from Kettering with an undergraduate degree. I decided that I would like to pursue Graduate school at Kettering University, what are my next steps should be to sign up for the program?
The first step is to formally apply to the Graduate program you are interested in pursuing. Secondly, complete the Accelerated Masters Option Form and send it to the Graduate School at gsr@mblayst.com in order for the appropriate department to determine the approved double count courses.
Is my financial aid affected by taking Grad courses as an Undergrad?
Maybe. Undergraduate students must be registered for and complete at least 15 credit hours of coursework that can be counted toward an undergraduate degree program each term to be eligible for federal financial aid. Any courses taken towards a graduate degree only, must be in addition to these 15 credit hours. All students should check with the Financial Aid Office if they are planning to take graduate courses in an academic term.
I am a freshman 1 student interested in the accelerated master's degree program for business. I am looking at creating my schedule for next year. What do I need to do in order to be a part of this program?
It is very important that you seek early advising from an academic advisor in your degree program, so they can assist you with developing the best plan of study.
What degree options are there?
All Graduate degree programs are available under the AMO, and are listed on the Graduate website.
I am currently a senior at Kettering. I would like to continue on to the MBA program after I graduate. Am I able to complete any classes now for the MBA?
To find out your options, you should contact the School of Management for advising.
Are the Grad courses going to impact my Undergrad scholarships or status as a full time student?
Kettering undergraduates need to maintain full-time student status in order to be eligible for federal financial aid. Courses that you are taking that will not count towards an undergraduate degree cannot be used toward full-time status. In other words, undergraduate students must be registered for and complete at least 15 credit hours of undergraduate coursework each term to be eligible for federal financial aid. Any courses taken towards a graduate degree only, must be in addition to these 15 credit hours.
I am an Honor's Student at KU, do I still need to apply for the AMO?
Though Honor's students are automatically approved for the AMO, we do ask that you complete the form for our processing purposes. You will also need to apply for admission to the Graduate School.
Is it possible to start my Grad program while I complete my undergrad?
You will not be able to officially start your graduate program until your undergraduate degree has been awarded. The master's program requires a conferred baccalaureate degree.
How are prerequisite courses handled in regard to this option?
Prerequisites for engineering program courses will be waived for graduate level students. If you are pursuing a Masters degree in the School of Management and do not have a Business minor, you may be required to complete the Foundations course.
